Created in September of 1998 by a group of press and communication professionals, the EMA Foundation (EMA) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote all forms of investment in the emerging sectors or regions. Since its inception, EMA has been supported by various institutions such as SECO (the State Secretariat to the Swiss Economy), the World Bank, the Financial Times, ABB, Geneva Finance Center, Pictet Bank, Bordier Bank, BNP Paribas, SCS Alliance Bank, the State and City of Geneva, ECPlaza, and Agefi.

Philosophy

To achieve its goals, EMA has launched projects such as EMA Invest, a magazine that focuses on investment and partnership opportunities in new markets. It also coordinates conferences, forums, workshops, distributes publications, and participates in any endeavour that proposes to promote the development of emerging economies. EMA uses the term “new markets” to refer to all markets, geographic areas and/or sectors, both near and far, that demonstrate the potential for significant growth and development, and are accessible to investors or entrepreneurs. Most of developing countries may be considered to be “ new markets ”. However, new technologies and services, as well as some regions of industrialized nations that are evolving, may also be included in this category. The fuel that propels this philosophy is the conviction that the free market is the best solution to resolving international disparities in economic development. EMA believes that the progressive integration of emerging economies in the global economy is feasible due to the recent birth of an entrepreneurial class that facilitates direct access to investments, technology and the know-how of industrialized nations. The promotion of these markets is thus targeted primarily at direct investors, managers, or venture capital, as well as the institutional or private investors who invest in the “ new market ” funds.
